Walk Fashion Show - New York Fashion Week Independent Designer Showcase produced by Daishawn Franklin on February 13, 2016 was Dirty Diana Magazine’s debut at NYFW. This premier event was held at Midtown Loft and Terrace 267 5th Ave, New York, NY 10016. The DDMag team could not miss this event, and so we traveled from Baltimore, MD to cover the show.  Over 10 unique designers each put on an extensive showcase coordinated by a quite comical host featuring models from all over. Unfortunately, our team could not stay the entire show, however we certainly enjoyed the experience!

The D.C. Fashion Foundation presents the D.C Fashion Incubator @ Macy’s Metro Center which took place on the evening of February 3, 2016.Located at the luxurious W Hotel 151 15th st NW Washington D.C. This event is to support the local emerging designers and to assist them with their brand by helping them develop a well-rounded skill level in the fashion industry. Attracting over 200 guests including buyers, bloggers and corporate executives from Macy’s New York, the fashion show and pop-up shops featured the inspired works of the inaugural class of Designers-in-Residence at the DC Fashion Incubator (DCFI) at Macy’s Metro Center, which launched in 2015 as a partnership between the DC Fashion Foundation and Macy’s.

DCFI is the fourth and latest location in a highly successful initiative established by Macy’s in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco.  The DC Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Metro Center guides six locally based designers and two designers from Peru and Ghana, Africa through business exchange programs between those two countries and the District of Columbia. The eight DCFI Designers-in-Residence receive training to round out their skills, including 900 square feet of workspace on the fourth floor at Macy’s Metro Center and training on the business side of the industry, such as apparel manufacturing/production, business and financial planning, branding, legal assistance and infrastructure support.

Now it’s show time! As models graced the runway with their lovely strides, some just a little too fast, however they put on a great show. A few highlights from the show were the Ollie Quinn collection of handbags we must say that how she utilizing men’s fashion as the vehicle to present her handbags was fabulous! Of course we could not forget about Ms. Vera Owner of Vera Moore Cosmetics who was the make up sponsor for the entire event, in which we had the pleasure to personally meet. The show was a little different not really what we here at DDMag are used to, coming from the collegiate sector. The show was strongly geared towards the shoppers and buyers in the industry rather than entertainment based around the models/college students. In all, the D.C. Fashion Foundation put on a great show and we can’t wait for their next event.

“Seeing Red” – Abril Manning, DDMAG Fashion Blogger

Models Inc. presents the Red Ribbon: HIV Awareness Fashion Show! Tis’ the season for high fashion and supporting a good cause! Red ruled the runway with an accent of white. Roses adorned the floor preparing for the models to do what they do best…work! Backstage was wild, as expected, as everyone commits to their role (MUA, designers, models) in bringing about a great show. The audience gravitated to the diversity of the lines for designers such as Derrick Dearyl, Karlo Mercedes,  Dajon Johnson, and Le & Ji from VH1’s hit tv show “Twinning”! Although the color red was the theme of the night, the designers cut through the monotony with black, white and gold while still keeping it classy and thematic. The silver wigs on the models were a tasteful touch and added to how fierce they were shredding the runway. Even the kid models put their everything into it and it was magical! Absolutely darling. So many unique and amazing styles, the evolution of fashion never cease to amaze us. The president of Models Inc. and show producer,  Aaron Handy, and the CEO, Bang gave us a great present wrapped in a big RED bow. Great energy, high fashion, cheerful spirits and holiday vibes; we couldn’t ask for more!

“Outlandish: Beyond the Ordinary” - Abril Manning, DDMAG Fashion Blogger

The "Outlandish" Fashion Show by Hardcore Glam debuted as the show of classic yet unique and very interesting looks that are sure to make you do a double take. The show was presented at the Double Tree Hilton in Pikesville, MD in the Preakness ballroom. Hardcore Glam gave us an intimate show with a wide variety of collections to gaze upon. Right before the show, the models were putting in last minute practice for their walks to get everything just right. Backstage was very tight so it indeed was a challenge in getting everyone ready. The ladies wore pink and white wigs as a feature to exemplify their outfits and to represent high energy and spontaneity. The show started about 30-45 minutes late but the professionalism never died down. The production worked with one spotlight that was able to magnify the outfit's natural colors, although guests could easily walk in front of it and completely make the runway go dark for a brief moment. All of the designers such as LRL (LoveRespectLoyalty) and Jordan Matthews were able to catch the audience's eye with their collections. The two youngest models (assuming to be about 8 or 9) featured in some of the collections brought a new feel to the runway show. Like all the other models, they knew what they were doing, they looked great and the audience loved it! The spirit of high fashion never left the place. Darius Thompson, CEO/creative director of Hardcore Glam closed out the show with his 2016 collection, which embodied a futuristic fashion with the color palette of black and white. His inspiration was of Grace Jones in the movie "Boomerang". Very classic, chic and diva-like. Even though the show started after its originated start time, it was a very quick show considering the showcasing of 11 designers and having an intermission. There were good vibes and good people who all came together to support the show. Bianca Golden, from America’s Next Top Model, did a wonderful job hosting as well as wearing a piece from the 2016 Hardcore Glam collection. Everyone worked very hard to make this show happen and did well in the long run! We toast to you Hardcore Glam, here's to many more!

"Glam, Glitz and Absolutely Glamorous" - By Abril Manning DDMAG Fashion Blogger

What a night! O'mak Designs definitely know how to put on a luxury show! The dress code was high fashion and no one was anything less. The crowd was fashionably anxious for the 'fashion night out' experience in which they had received and plus much more! The Winter Collection and a taste of the Spring/Summer collection was to die for with beautiful designs and fabulous ensembles. With prints on print, velvet with lace and colors so bold, the "I Am She" collection by Uche Ibezue is a cultural wonder. Coordinating the show with her was the extraordinary premiere DMV stylist Mannie Toraz, CEO of Luxary Lane Styling. In each scene the models brought the fire and the audience felt every ember as they lit up the runway. Bravo to the hosts, and everyone else involved. O’mak Designs, thank you for the luxurious memories. Until we meet again!
